During the early years of the Taliban’s rise in Afghanistan, Masoud Mohseni’s family was forced to flee Kabul, and he was born in 1998 along their migration route to Iran. The family’s four children, with Masoud the third, grew up amid the hardship of displacement, an experience that shaped his life from the very beginning.

Bahar Arfan wurde im Jahr 2000 im Iran geboren, weit entfernt von der Heimat ihrer Familie. Nach dem Sturz der Taliban beschloss ihre Familie, in ihre Heimat zurückzukehren. Für sie war die Rückkehr eine Art Wiedergeburt; für Bahar war es der Beginn der Entdeckung eines Landes, das sie sowohl durch seine Schönheit als auch durch seine Herausforderungen prägen sollte.

Bahar Arfan was born in 2000 in Iran, far from her family’s homeland. “During those years, my parents were forced to flee Afghanistan under the dark shadow of the Taliban regime, seeking refuge in Iran in the hope of finding safety and a better future.”

Saadat Amiri, 27, stammt aus einer großen, eng verbundenen Familie mit drei Schwestern und vier Brüdern. Als ältestes Kind hatte er schon in jungen Jahren viele Verantwortlichkeiten. Seine Familie sind Bauern, die in Afghanistan leben und Saadat verbrachte seine Kindheit und Jugend zwischen Afghanistan, Iran und Pakistan. „Ich konnte nur die Grundschule offiziell abschließen“, erklärt er. „Aufgrund der Umstände meiner Familie und der Herausforderungen des Lebens in abgelegenen Gebieten konnte ich meine Ausbildung nicht fortsetzen.“ Stattdessen widmete Saadat einen Großteil seiner Zeit der Arbeit und der Unterstützung seiner Familie. Trotz dieser Hindernisse setzte er sein informelles Lernen fort – mit Hilfe von Verwandten und Freunden und durch Selbststudium.

Saadat Amiri, 27, comes from a large, close-knit family with three sisters and four brothers. As the eldest sibling, he has had many responsibilities from a young age. His family are farmers living in Afghanistan, and Saadat spent his childhood and teenage years moving between Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. “I was only able to complete primary school formally,” he explains. “Due to my family’s circumstances and the challenges of living in remote areas, I couldn’t continue my education.” Instead, Saadat dedicated much of his time to working and supporting his family. Despite these obstacles, he continued to pursue learning informally—with the help of relatives and friends, and through self-study.

Mursal Kakar wuchs in Kabul auf, der Hauptstadt eines Landes, das sie als „von tiefer Schönheit und tiefer Not geprägt“ beschreibt. Sie ist eines von acht Geschwistern, mit vier Schwestern und drei Brüdern. Ihre Eltern vermittelten ihren Kindern Werte wie Stärke, Bildung, Dienst am Nächsten und Gleichberechtigung – insbesondere für Mädchen. Mursal hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Betriebswirtschaft und absolviert derzeit einen Master-Studiengang in Diplomatie an der Europäischen Akademie für Diplomatie in Polen.

Mursal Kakar grew up in Kabul, the capital of what she describes as a land “both of deep beauty and of deep hardship.” She is one of eight siblings, with four sisters and three brothers. Her parents instilled in their children the values of strength, education, service, and equal rights—especially for girls. Mursal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy at the European Academy of Diplomacy in Poland.

Als Imamudin Hamdard, 44, 2021 nach Deutschland kam, brachte er mehr als nur einen Koffer mit. Er trug die Last der Vertreibung, das Schweigen des Exils und die Unsicherheit eines Neuanfangs mit sich. „Ich stand vor Herausforderungen in Bezug auf Integration, Sprachbarrieren und Unsicherheit über die Zukunft. Diese ersten Erfahrungen waren stressig und emotional überwältigend.“ Er stammt aus einer großen Familie mit fünf Brüdern und drei Schwestern.
